Subject: Opportunity in Belize
Posted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 11:34 am (GMT -5)

Hello!

I’m new to the forum, and would like to share an amazing opportunity!

I am currently an intern in Belize at an institute, organic farm and retreat center. I have been here for three months, and I am leaving in two weeks to travel to some other farms in Latin America, before coming back to this paradise in September. We are in need of interns to take my place!

I have learned so much in three months here, even in the first month I learned A LOT. You can improve your knowledge about diet and nutrition – they practice a vegan diet, eating tropical fruits, smoothies, juices and delicious and nutritious, conscious cooked vegetable meals. You can check out our flickr page for some meal examples! http://www.flickr.com/photos/uhirbze/sets/72157628387202413/

Aside from diet and nutrition, you will learn about sustainability – this place is off grid, using solar power. We have three sources of water; a spring, a creek and harvested rainwater.

In the morning before starting our day, we meet in the yoga palapa and meditate, followed by an hour long yoga session. We take turns teaching, adding our own flare and energy to our practice, learning from one another. On Saturdays and Sundays, depending on the weather, we may practice longer and in the afternoon, enjoying the heat of the sun!

You will also get to experience living life in a community if you come here. It is funny how isolated we are from one another... community living is totally different than the lifestyles most of us are used to, and it’s really something to be part of a team!

This really is a beautiful, special property, with a lot to offer. We are working on growing organic vegetables and greens right now, so you would have the opportunity to learn about that, which is part of what drew me here in the first place. I knew virtually nothing about growing before I came here, but now I have learnt so much.

They are also working on an agro-forestry program and you may be able to help identify and tag various species along the beautiful trails here!

The property is over 40 acres, I think about 47, and is simply beautiful! Yosiah, the owner, is very knowledgeable and skilled, and if you are interested in this type of lifestyle, he is the man to learn from. We work five days per week, and go to market on Saturdays.

Sundays are free aside from chores (eg. feeding the vegetarian dogs), and we can do many things such as taking a hike up the mountain, hiking to our mountain milpa, watching a movie, reading, meditating, or just getting to know one another on a more personal level and working on ourselves.

We look for people to stay for 90 days (or more if you’d like). If you are interested, please email yosiahyedidiah@yahoo.com. You can check out our website as well, but it is out of date and doesn’t reflect our current situation – it is in the process of being updated. http://www.universalhealingbelize.org/

Thank you and I hope this reaches whoever needs to be here! Once in a lifetime opportunity.
It doesn't bother me, it never has...

I grew up Muslim and used to fast for Ramadan, and people would always ask if it bothered me when they ate in front of me. Of course not. Just because I choose not to eat, doesn't mean they shouldn't eat either.

So I feel kind of similar with people eating meat in front of me. It's fine as long as they aren't being pushy about it and trying to get me to eat some, you know? We're all at a different place in our life, there was a point when I wasn't vegan and used to eat meat in front of my veg friends. They were fine with it too.

But it is funny how some people will ask if it's okay that they eat meat in front of me! At least they are being considerate?
I was b12 deficient, I took a blood test and my levels were half of what they were a year ago!!

So I went to a pharmacy, bought some methylcobalamin and syringes and started giving myself injections (after researching/reading how to do so). I think it helped a lot, I haven't gotten tested since but you might look into doing something like that or taking sublingual b12. My friend was taking sublingual b12 haphazardly, she would only remember a couple times per week and her levels shot up because of it. And she's a raw vegan so she couldn't really be getting it from anywhere else...
Hello!
I’m new and wanted to share my journey to vegetarianism and veganism!

In 2007 (Jan-April) I took a course in zoology... it was dumbed down for arts students, counting as a science credit. One of the topics we covered was domestication, and we looked at factory farms, things like that... that sparked the idea for me to go vegetarian, but I wasn’t ready to do it overnight. Anyway I basically knew that it would happen at some point soon...

Then in May 2007 I went out west to Alberta to work in a rocky mountain resort! Great! One day I went out in a field of cows in a 4x4. I had never come so close to them before, seeing little babies running to their moms because they were scared of the noise of the vehicle... just being so close to the cows and realizing, “hey! They are sentient beings! Why am I making them food?” After that moment, I decided to be a vegetarian. I cut out chicken and beef basically overnight. I was raised as a Muslim so I never grew up with pig products. The only thing I had a hard time giving up was fish. I continued to eat sushi for two more months (probably only two or three times during that time) and then I gave that up too.

Once I let go of those foods, it was very easy for me to maintain. I didn’t crave them or anything. Then I saw “Earthlings”. Dang. I never cried so much!! I couldn’t even watch the whole film in one sitting, I had to stop and go back to it a month later. If I wasn’t already a vegetarian, that would have convinced me! It did convince me to go vegan...

From there I went vegan on and off... allowing myself to give into cravings when feeling down. However, I’ve maintained a vegan diet for the last 3 months and have had no cravings whatsoever! I’m feeling great and loving life!

Thanks for having me here
General Vegan Talk :: The DS-RX1 – DNP Printer - A Cost Effective Solution

Subject: The DS-RX1 – DNP Printer - A Cost Effective Solution
Posted: Sun Jan 29, 2012 3:30 am (GMT -5)

Dye sub printers are massively used by photography experts and professionals nowadays, due to the high quality of the printed pictures and the high speed and overall performance.

The DS-RX1 – DNP Printer is one of the most known and reliable dye sublimation printers in the market today. DNP managed to expand the offering to the market regarding the very successful DS series, with a new low investment printer, the DS RX1. It is one of the most cost effective printers of the series today that makes no compromises and sacrifices when it comes to quality. The DS RX1 can deliver prints in several sizes, such as 10 x 15, 13 x 18, 15 x 20, on both glossy and matte surfaces. The resolution of the printed images ranges from 300 x 300 dpi to 600 x 600 dpi.

DS RX1 is also topping the list of the energy saving printers of its category. The printer also offers a very low cost solution when it comes to print media and photo consumables; however, as mentioned before, the main goal of the manufacturer is to ensure and maintain quality at all times. It comes as no surprise that DNP media and photo experts collaborated to design and build this printer.

The DS RX1 does not sacrifice quality or functionality, and comes with a new dedicated software program that allows the user to make use of several different printing services, using just one PC. The user has the chance to customize the printing system according to his requirements and needs; anyone can now print from different counter top terminals, including a self service photo kiosk and a professional booth. If you are a professional and have a photo store, you can simply make your store the absolute destination for the customers who will be flocking to print their images on their own.

The DS RX1 has a capacity of 700 prints of the 10 x 15 size, which means that you can actually run it in longer cycles before you will need to change the printing media. Moreover, RX1 is less wide and higher than other DS printers, which means that can easily fit in an existing kiosk or a retail space. It was originally designed to be a kiosk printer, and thus, it comes with front loading, making media loading very easy, even if the unit is mounted on the booth, inside the kiosk, or even under a typical store counter.

When it comes to the print media you can use, your options vary, depending on your needs. You can go for the 2UPC-R206 - Sony print media, which is color print media type compatible with the DS printers as well. 2UPC – R206 allows you to achieve maximum print quality, since it is a self laminating dye sub media. It comes with a super coat lamination able to protect the printed images for a long time, offering better quality compared to the typical photo paper. This media stands out due to the great quality of the color reproductions offered, but also due to the fact that it allows you to apply different kinds of finishes without changing the media each time.
Subject: The Advantages of Dye Sublimation Printers
Posted: Sun Jan 29, 2012 3:28 am (GMT -5)

Dye sublimation printing is a printing process that is becoming increasingly popular lately especially among photo specialists and professionals, who own photo kiosks and photo booths and require the best possible quality pictures.

Sublimation printing refers to the transfer of full color graphic onto a specific media chosen out of a large scale. These media objects could be materials such as glass, metal, ceramic and anything that can take a special coating which allows it to become sub – receptive. Sublimation printing can also take place on puzzles, mouse pads, T shirts and even key rings and coasters. The process is relatively simple since there are not many steps required to produce high quality prints.

Dedicated dye sub printers are completely different from the all purpose printers we know, because they are made to print high quality photos only, no graphics documents or texts. In general, they are compact sized and relatively lightweight so that they can be easily moved; some printers can also use batteries that allow them to operate without the need of a power outlet. Dye sub printers are built around a dye engine, but there are still some printers suing the inkjet technology we know in other printers.

The advent of digital photography has resulted into the development of dye sub printers and has made them more popular even to non professional users. Instead of spraying the jets of ink on a page or media as the regular printers do, the dye sub printers apply a dye from plastic film.

The main advantage of dye sublimity printers over the regular ones are:
-	Dye dub printers are much faster than the regular printers
-	They are maintenance free compared to inkjet printers. Dye sub printers do not clog, therefore they need no cleaning, or replacement
-	The quality of the print is impeccable, and has no visible patterns, even if magnified
-	Inkjet printers can be blotchy at dark and shadow areas, while the dye sub ones produce perfect shadows and dark details
-	The dye sub prints are waterproof and much more durable compared to regular inkjet prints
-	The prints of the dye sub printers feel more like real pictures because they are vivid and smooth, without any dot patterns.
-	Dye sub printers are much faster than inkjet printers that print photos out.

The difference in quality, speed and maintenance are the main reasons why photo experts and professionals seem to prefer dye sublimation printers nowadays. Photographers have the chance to take a picture and print it out right away when using this type of printer. This offers numerous advantages to the professionals that work during events, or to those for whom speed is an issue. This is one of the greatest advantages of dye sublimation printers, since they allow the immediate handling of the photo. There is no ink or liquid stage in the entire process, therefore the result is absolutely clean. In any case, the excellent quality of the photo produce is a reason on its own to buy dye sublimation printers.

Up until 5 years ago I was a complete meat eater and this was for more than 60 years. With help from my wife and encouragement from my doctor, for health reasons I have gone vegan. Watching people eat meat now is somewhat difficult. Knowing what I now know it is just a shame for both the animal and the person.

I did not think eating vegan and being normal was possible. Until I realized being normal meant that I would probably die young of a disease such as diabetes, heart attack or cancer like the other people in my age group. Taking a dozen different medications to combat their onset and spending all my time in the doctors office and talking to my friends about my current medical condition. Now I am sure eating vegan is one of the best thing I have ever done.
